Round 3 of the British Cross Country MTB championships took place in Lochore Meadows in Fife, the event wasn’t supposed to be held here but the original setting had to be scrapped due to storm damage.
First outing at a MTB event for me, and I was blown away with the speed of the riders on the downhill section….. how anyone can throw themselves off an incline over rocks and roots is slightly beyond me but to do this and barely touch the brakes is otherworldly.
It was great to meet up with a whole bunch of familiar faces from the CX at the end of last/start of the year as well as see a few new faces during the long course. Although not a particularly technical course, it was challenging in other ways giving very little time off the pedals, with only a brief interlude where you could ease up however you had to concentrate on getting your downhill line correct.
The crowd had come to watch local favourites Rab WARDELL & winner Rory MCGUIRE in the mens Elite class as well as Isla SHORT in the women elite but for me the most entertaining ride of the weekend had to have been Montezuma’s Lotta MANSFIELD who out jumped everyone and had little regard for the downhill consistently making time on this section where others slowed.
Enjoy and hope to see you soon
